Hello SmartServer Community
I’m just getting started in the blog sphere with topics related to real applications to the SmartServer.  I often get involved in projects that stretch the SmartServer's resources.  I’m currently developing a Modbus template for the Electro Industries Shark 100 sub meter (http://www.electroind.com/pdf/shark_manual.pdf ).  This device has more information about power quality than most of us care to know about but the template I’m creating will allow access to most of the data.  In the process, I’ll develop an i.LON vision UI that I think will result in some postings on the Web Design and visuals blog.So far I’m finding the SmartServer pages for creating Modbus datapoints to be quite efficient.  There are new built-in formats to scale the data without having to create resource files to do the work.  The Duplicate point function works really well to create datapoints from a Modbus register table.

As is the case with many Modbus devices, one needs to test things carefully to be sure the manufacture in addressing using a one or zero based map.  This device seems to use 1 based addressing for the fixed data, and 0 based for the real time data.  I had to find this out the hard way!  But don't worry, when the template is done you have access to it so stay tuned.
