is it possible to create a new template for a LON device wwithout defining the template during initail creation of the device??

No, you have to create the real thing and then save it as a template. Maybe I misunderstood your question?

 Thanks for your reply.... but what i meant was , wen i create a new device, i don define any template for it. i want to create a seperate template for that new device later after submitting it to smart server. is it possible??

I'm still not sure if I understood you correctly. If you want to apply a separate template to an already created device that is also possible: go to the WebPage and select (another?) template for your device. That should also check the checkbutton on the left. Submit and wait till the template command is reported to be finished.

 let me make it more clear to you... i actually don want to choose any template from smart server... but wanna create seperately externally and den dump it to smart server... is it possible??

Technically templates are XML files on the SmartServer. You can create such an XML whereever you want and FTP that to the SmartServer. The XIF for the device should be on the SmartServer though.
